Amid Obama’s National Emergency declaration, doctors speak on H1N1

Eastern Seaboard, USA – The news flash out of Washington D.C. today is that President Barack Obama has just declared the H1N1 (swine flu) situation in the United States a National Emergency.

According to The Free Dictionary, a National Emergency is : “A condition declared by the President or the Congress by virtue of powers previously vested in them that authorize certain emergency actions to be undertaken in the national interest. Action to be taken may include partial, full, or total mobilization of national resources.”

(For a more detailed discussion of “National Emergency Act,” do a search at The Free Dictionary.)

Last week, at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Woodstock, VA, the Valley Health facility was seeing about 50 more people per day than usual – who possibly have H1N1, while some parents of Shenandoah County students said that local schools – like Strasburg High – are experiencing a significant increase in absences due to the flu.  In both cases, it’s unclear whether the increased instances are due specifically to H1N1 – swine flu, or not.

Ironically, Obama’s National Emergency Declaration is coming at the same time as many Americans (including American parents of boys and girls) are taking a hard look at the H1N1 vaccine, as they witness the date when a supply of vaccines will reach their area continue to be delayed.

A New York Times article posted online less than two hours ago, states:

“Although no one has an exact count of the flu’s mortality, Dr. Thomas R. Frieden of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC)  said yesterday that it had killed more than 1,000 Americans and hospitalized over 20,000. The emergency declaration, which Mr. Obama signed Friday night, has to do only with hospital treatment, not with the vaccine.

The country is in the midst of a serious shortage of swine flu vaccine; only about 16 million doses are available. There is no overall shortage of seasonal flu vaccine — 85 million doses have already shipped, and the regular flu season has not started. But there are temporary local shortages.

The declaration allows hospitals to apply to the Department of Health and Human Services for waivers from laws that in normal times are intended to protect patients’ privacy and to ensure that they are not discriminated against based on their source of payment for care, including Medicare, Medicaid and the states’ Children’s Health Insurance Program.”

Many people are searching the Internet for the latest H1N1 data – to make a decision for their family members – and to seek information that paints a realistic picture of how many people are getting sick, and how severe the swine flu really is.

They are looking to hear what trained doctors have to say.

For the last several weeks, Dr. Vinay Goyal has been all the rage on the web – with his advice on H1N1. Many people have been introduced to his suggestions via emails which have been widely circulating in cyberspace, as well as web sites – like 7Bends.com – which seek to print all of the varying opinions on this subject, and others.  (We figure: let the people decide. They will anyway.)

Now, other high-profile physicians are entering the discussion, and starting to get some buzz.

1. One such physician is Rebecca Carley, M.D., whose grandson died while being treated for H1N1. Calling the H1N1 vaccine program “pharmageddon,” she is reported saying that: “Until an investigation of every single batch of vaccine has been conducted to be sure it is not capable of causing death to Americans, all vaccinations should be halted immediately.”

Dr. Carley refers to a news article on October 11, 2009 entitled “US Controls Bird Flu Vaccines Over Bioweapon Fears.” Robin McDowell, an Associated Press writer, reported that the U.S. has “banned export of (the H1N1) vaccines to certain rogue nations out of fear that they will be used for biological warfare.”  (Read more.)

2. Another physician making a buzz is Russell L. Blaylock, M.D.  Here is his web site.

Short Bio – Russell L. Blaylock, M.D.

Dr. Blaylock is a board certified neurosurgeon, author and lecturer. He attended the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed his general surgical internship and neurosurgical residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina.

Blaylock’s Conclusions on H1N1

Dr. Russell Blaylock, a board certified neurosurgeon, calls the swine flu vaccine “dangerous and unnecessary.”  Like Dr. Goyal, Blaylock’s beliefs regarding the swine flu have also been circulating through e-mail – in Blaylock’s case, all over the Lousiana State University (LSU) Campus.

The e-mail states an ingredient in the vaccine: “has been shown to cause severe autoimmune disorders such as MS, rheumatoid arthritis and Lupus.”

On the FluTrackers.com web forum, he responded to a concerned individual who wrote to him asking for his advice as it relates to the Swine (H1N1) flu vaccine.  Dr. Blaylock is reported to say that he believes that:

” No one should take the swine flu vaccine as it is one of the most dangerous vaccines ever devised. It contains an immune adjuvant called squalene (MF-59) which has been shown to cause severe autoimmune disorders such as MS, rheumatoid arthritis and Lupus.”

He says that it is: “A vaccine adjuvant that is strongly linked to the Gulf War syndrome, which killed over 10,000 soldiers and caused a 200% increase in the fatal disease ALS (Lou Gehreg disease).”

Additionally, he says: “This virus H1N1 kills by causing ascytokine storms,  which means that it causes the body’s immune system to overreact and that is why it is killing young people and is a mild disease in the elderly. This vaccine is a very powerful immune stimulator and carries the real possibility of making the lethality of the virus much greater.”

Here is the Flu Trackers Forum, if you want to check it out for yourself.

Pure and simple, Dr. Blaylock suggests that the best protection against contracting H1N1 flu is Vitamin D3 – taken at a dose of 5000 IU at first, and then increased to a dose of 15,000 IU per day – when the disease begins to spread.

Vitamin D3 is said to modulate the immune reaction, reducing the chance of an overreaction and stimulates the body to produce what are called antimicrobial peptides (i.e., powerful killers of viruses that does not involve immunity.) This is dose related, which means the higher the dose of vitamin D3 the better the protection.

Dr. Blaylocks  says that Fish oils – such as Carlson’s Norwegian lemon flavored fish oil -  also reduce immune overreaction. He says that one teaspoon a day should be sufficient; however, for or severe symptoms, the dose should be one teaspoon twice a day.

Accordingly,  Blaylock recommends taking antioxidants of various kinds, including: quercetin, curcumin, grapeseed extract, Vitamin C and natural vitamin E.  He says to remember that taking a good multivitamin/mineral every day is now more essential than ever.

Dr. Blaylock’s H1N1 tips can also be found on the Topix web site.

Blaylock’s Credentials:

Dr. Blaylock is a board certified neurosurgeon, author and lecturer. He attended the LSU School of Medicine in  New Orleans and completed his general surgical internship and neurosurgical residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston,  South Carolina . During his residency he ran the neurology program for one year and did a fellowship in neurosurgery after his residency.

For the past 25 years he has practiced neurosurgery in addition to having a nutritional practice. He recently retired from both practices to devote full time to nutritional studies and research.

Blaylock’s  book, Natural Strategies for Cancer Patients, discusses the ways to defeat cancer, enhance the effectiveness of conventional treatments and prevent complications associated with these treatments. In addition, he has written and illustrated three chapters in medical textbooks, written a booklet on nutritional protection against biological terrorism and written and illustrated a booklet on multiple sclerosis.

Dr. Blaylock has also written an article called: “National Health Insurance: The Socialist Nightmare” (See link.) In this piece, he says:

“One characteristic of the collectivist is that when a particular term becomes unpopular, such as the word socialism, they create a succession of more socially friendly terms. For example, in the 1800s they did not shy away from the term socialism, but as people began to understand that socialism was a form of social control and engineering, they dropped the term for more acceptable terms such as liberalism, progressivism and collectivism.

The socialist promoting a government-run health care system did likewise. Knowing that the term socialized medicine was frightening to a great number of people, they began to use such terms as national health care, universal health insurance and now single payer system.”

Blaylock was recently awarded the Integrity in Science award by the Westin Price Foundation. He is a visiting professor in the department of biological sciences at Belhaven  College in  Jackson,  Mississippi.

He  serves on the editorial staff of the Journal of the American Nutraceutical Association and is the associate editor of the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons, official journal of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons.

Additionally,  he is a member of the American Association of Physicians and Surgeons, the American Nutraceutical Association, the International and American Associations of Clinical Nutritionist, the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, American College of Nutrition, American Association for Health Freedom, National Health Federation, American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and the Price-Pottenger Nutrition Foundation.

The author of 7bends.com has written an excellent article. You have made your point and there is not much to argue about. It is like the following universal truth that you can not argue with: Every bloke has at some stage while taking a pee flushed half way through and then raced against the flush. Thanks for the info.
