Strasburg – It’s all about the kids! Come one, come all. The mouse is calling you. Not Mickey Mouse, but Christmas Mouse!

On Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Strasburg Youth in Arts will hold their Third Annual “House of the Christmas Mouse” Program at the Strasburg Christian Church, located at 165 High Street in Strasburg.

The House of the Christmas Mouse is your opportunity to share the true meaning of Christmas with area young people. Here’s the scoop:

Free True Meaning of Christmas Art Contest:

Open to any youth under the age of 18 (or age 18 if in high school). Submissions may be in any medium (literary, performance, musical, drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, etc.,). The subject of the piece must be “The True Meaning of Christmas.” Winning entries will be placed on display at First Bank of Strasburg.

Free Gingerbread House Contest:
Categories open for children (under 18 or in high school if over 18) and for adults. Youth submissions will be disqualified if it appears that it has had hands-on adult assistance (in fairness to all contestants). All submissions must be constructed of 100% edible materials. Parents/adults may offer guidance and suggestions to children/youth, but must not assist with the actual construction or decoration of the Gingerbread House submission. Winning entries will be placed on display at Sugar Hill Gift Baskets in Strasburg.

Learning to Make Gingerbread Houses:
This is a youth activity that requires registration by Friday, December 4, 2009. Fee for participation is $10. Space available on a first-come, first-serve basis and we regret that we are unable to accept registrations after 12/4/09. This is a fun popular project, so they ask that people register early.

Making True Meaning of Christmas Crafts, Jewelry & Holiday Ornaments:
Prices range from 50 cents to $1.50 for Christmas crafts, ornaments, and festive jewelry items that you will make, build, assemble, or paint right on site and take home to use as gifts, decorations, or just to enjoy for yourself.

Free Decorating Christmas Cookies:
Children will have the opportunity to decorate sugar cookies and either take them home or eat them on the spot!

And, here’s an opportunity to Make Someone Else’s Christmas Brighter -
